About WJA
Our History
We've come along way in just a few years. Here is a time line of the success we have had at WJA.
- 2001 WJA is founded by the Jesuit communities in Washington, DC, who asked themselves "What more can we do to serve economically poor children?"
- 2002 WJA opens its doors to its first class of 6th graders
- 2004 WJA moves to its permanent home on Varnum Street
- 2005 WJA's first class graduates from 8th grade
- 2008 WJA enters a partnership with DC Central Kitchen's Fresh Start Catering to take our breakfasts, lunches and dinners to a new level of nutrition
- 2009 WJA's first class graduates from high school
- 2010 WJA dedicates Ruppert Field
- 2011 WJA celebrates 10 years of leadership in urban education
