Washington Jesuit Academy

The Z’s have been loyal donors to the Academy for seven years. They have also invested their time – two hours each week – serving as tutors in WJA’s evening study hall. They do it because they respect the goal of Jesuit education to develop “men for others” and because they recognize the commitment of WJA’s teaching staff.

“WJA is intimately involved in the transformation of these boys into men. I’m honored and humbled and thrilled to be a part of it,” “Mr. Z.” says, and recalls by name six or seven alumni who have made an impact on him over the years. He adds an anecdote about an old favorite:

“There was a student named Marcus. He attends a very exclusive private school in rural Virginia now, and decided to run for school President. That’s WJA. To have the confidence to go outside your comfort zone, make a lot of friends, and serve your community. He’s a great kid, and some of that, he had to have learned at the Academy.”

Mrs. Z. agrees that there is something special about WJA students. “I dropped a salad in the dinner line once. At any other school, the kids would have politely stepped around me. Not WJA. I was immediately swarmed by five or six young men who were cleaning up my mess for me – not because they had to, but because they genuinely wanted to help me.”
