Where Do See Your Talent Best Utilized?

Have you ever considered getting a jump start on your career while you're still in school? On December 27, 2010, President Obama signed the Executive Order “Recruiting and Hiring Students and Recent Graduates” which is a Pathways Programs framework with three clear excepted-service program paths tailored to recruit, hire, develop, and retain students and recent graduates. But to be seriously considered, you’ve got to be prepared to compete and win!

How Do I Find My Passion and Who Will Help Me?

Parents and educators are the most important influencing factors on our youth’s future. We encourage students to speak with their teachers, family members, and mentors to explore their academic and career interests while developing leadership skills essential for their success.

Still Have Questions?

Here are some tips to help you find the answers:

  • Talk with people who have access to your field of interest. Most people are happy to talk about their work. This is called information interviewing.
  • Narrow your field of interest by identifying your passion. What brings a smile to your face; curiosity in your thought? An excellent test our students take each summer through the Gallup Young Leaders Program is the Gallup StrengthsFinder Profile. Click here to take the test!
  • Access to Federal Government internship and career opportunities. The Federal government is comprised of over 300 agencies with jobs for nearly every interest. We encourage you – high school, college or graduate school students – to consider Federal service; it’s a fantastic way to contribute to your country while pursuing your passion. • Volunteer to do work in your area of interest. Most communities have volunteer action centers that will help you.
  • Participate in internship or cooperative education programs. Plan ahead so you can beat the pack to your dream summer or semester work/internship/study abroad opportunity.
  • Network, Network, Network. Breaking News: Your dream job will not be handed to you on a personalized platter; you have to put in the “sweat equity” at the beginning of the game before the opportunities will show up at the end. “If it is to be, it is up to me.”
