Noreen and Jim Lucey honored at Graduation
Long time volunteers, sponsors and friends of the Academy Noreen and Jim Lucey were honored at WJA’s graduation ceremony in May. The couple received WJA’s Founders Award, which is presented every year to a member of the WJA community who embodies the inspiration, courage, generosity and faith of the men and women who founded the Academy. The Luceys have gathered friends and family to sponsor two students, and Noreen’s company Write For You has donated invitations and stationery for every one of WJA’s major events. Noreen has also volunteered countless hours as a tutor and at WJA’s family events. Thank you for your service, Noreen and Jim!
Become a Volunteer
WJA relies on the commitment and generosity of a corps of 40 volunteer tutors to keep its doors open until 7:30 each evening. Tutors—once described as equal parts mentor, confidant and traffic cop – supervise WJA’s nightly study halls and offer assistance with homework and test preparation.

Share the vision and values of WJA with your colleagues by inviting a representative to make an introductory presentation at your company.
Host a Wednesday’s Panthers Trip
WJA seeks members of the business community to host monthly leadership luncheons for “Wednesday’s Panthers,” a revolving group of 15-18 students who consistently demonstrate a commitment to the Academy’s values. These luncheons encourage soft mentoring opportunities between the students and business professionals. They build confidence, encourage a love of learning, promote leadership skills and demand that each student take advantage of the intelligence and curiosity he possesses.
