WJA Students Set Sail on the Potomac!

Each summer, WJA rising 8th graders climb aboard the American Spirit as part of our partnership with the “Kids Set Sail” program sponsored by the National Maritime Heritage Foundation (NMHF).

Many of our 8th graders had the chance to participate in this 5 day program this year, gaining knowledge and hands on experience relating to Sailing on a Schooner, Seamanship, Local History and Marine Science.  The week ended with a fun “graduation sail” on the Potomac River giving students the chance to show off their skills to parents and staff.  Students who participate in “Kids Set Sail” have the opportunity to become US Sailing Small Boat Level One certified.
